“You're always you, and that don't change, and you're always changing, and there's nothing you can do about it.” ― Neil Gaiman, The Graveyard Book
NATURALS |
|
Natural entities are those that are born into the world without being inherently predefined by magic. They are born with no knowledge of what lies beyond the veil and can either be mortal humans or animals.
Both mortals and animals alike are born with a level of sensitivity to the magic, the veil, and the supernatural.
Some are far more sensitive or open to it, while others are more banal and prone to rationalize things they might not be able to explain. Those with a higher sensitivity, may find themselves drawn to everything that lies beyond the veil. Whether they feel the draw to commune with or destroy the mystical depends on the nature of the being.

SUPERNATURALS |
|
While our supernatural race groups have some similarities to common lore found elsewhere, please take special care to note that there is much about them that is unique to Emory Haven.
These are characters that exist as part of the mystical elements of our setting. The theme these entities share is a pursuit of balance as they coexist as mystical beings that must find harmony living their supernatural lives among a world that can know nothing of them, and the toll or consequences that can take.
There may be supernatural races still left undiscovered or unknown. The veil has even shrouded the mystical beings from each other as they hide. Here is an encyclopedia of these, as of yet, known supernatural entities in Emory Haven.
YOUTHS |
|
Consider "Youths" a subcategory for underage characters. Many of the supernatural races have special notes for their young. Youth characters have their own special mentor to help them out with getting settled in, answering questions, and pluging into youth specific rp outlets.
Our Youth Mentor is Bethy Breen [choralite.resident]

Notes:
- Witches: Natural magical ability usually presents itself at puberty, so despite the occasional flare of magical energy in born witches that may crop up from time to time in young children. This means that witches usually do not have access to their magical potential until between their 9th and 12th years of age
- Werewolves: Children born to werewolves may or may not inherit the lycan gene, and presents it's first change at puberty age when their bodies are otherwise going though changes. A potential werewolf child is often seen through their first change-moon by an Alpha and their bonded pack as a werewolf's change is disastrously difficult on a person physically and spiritually and it is often a concern that young or frail people may not survive it until the change has fully taken hold. It is for this reason that very young made wolves would be very rare.
- Vampires: The curse blood can not sustain a prepubescent body.
Note that while we welcome characters of all ages, some of the themes that arise in Emory Haven storylines are not all "family friendly". Every player on sim is an adult. Those with child characters are expected to stick to rp themes that are appropriate to them, and are in keeping with LL ToS. EH RPers with adult characters are asked to not make it any harder for Youth than necessary, but darker or more "unsavory" themes are available and perfectly acceptable for age-appropriate characters.

Avatars should be realistic in appearance. No cartoonish, stylistic, or anthropomorphized appearances that might distract from an immersive, believable experience are allowed outside the landing area without an OOC tag.

Supernatural creatures can have slight affectations present in the laity rp areas that could be explained or rationalized as body modifications or birth defects, but more elaborate distinguishing racial features should be reserved for areas where it would make sense for these beings to let these attributes show. There are "Sanctuary areas" that are enchanted to let supernatural beings be more overt without it jeapordizing the veil; only those that are not "unveiled" to the supernatural world would see the mystical. All others might rationalize what they see, not remember, or simply not see anything at all.
